Team Member (Crop scouting), IPM Institute Specialty Crops Grower Services

Summer-seasonal team member position available with a growing independent non-profit organization working to improve sustainability in agriculture and communities through Integrated Pest Management (IPM).

The individual in this position will work with project teams, project partners and clients to scout and monitor pests common to apples and grapes in southeastern Minnesota and southwestern Wisconsin.  The crop scout will be responsible for scheduling farm visits and implementing insect and disease-monitoring protocols, and reporting observations and results to clients and the project manager.  Additional responsibilities include co-writing weekly articles for clients participating in the specialty crops IPM program and conducting record audits for a sustainable agriculture verification program.  This is an excellent opportunity to interact on a regular basis with farmers, researchers and IPM specialists working to promote sustainable agriculture in specialty crops.

The ideal candidate will have background in either entomology, plant pathology, horticulture, sustainable agriculture, tree fruit or on-farm experience with specialty crops.  Excellent writing and organizational skills, attention to detail and accuracy, and proficiency with Microsoft Office are essential.

Pay and benefits:
Flexible schedule, 35 to 40 hours per week, hourly compensation commensurate with skills and experience ($12 – $14 per hour).  This is a seasonal position beginning in April or May and ending in late August or September.  Our rapid growth provides for excellent opportunities for advancement.  Benefits include housing, paid vacation and holidays.  This position is located remotely in Lacrosse Wisconsin.
