Website American Farmland Trust

American Farmland Trust is the only national organization that takes a holistic approach to agriculture, focusing on the land itself, the agricultural practices used on that land, and the farmers and ranchers who do the work. Since our founding in 1980, AFT has helped permanently protect over 6.5 million acres of agricultural lands, advanced environmentally-sound farming practices on millions of additional acres, and helped thousands of farm families make a go of it (primarily through programs that increase farm viability and/or enhance farmland access). Long a pioneering leader, AFT is now riding a new wave of
growth, driven by agriculture’s most pressing needs and opportunities.

NOTE: AFT’s current organizational structure includes two Vice Presidents for Programs (VPP), each with a different portfolio. At this point in time, the VPP position described herein will oversee the directors of national programs, whereas the other VPP position will oversee the regional offices. The two VPPs will work together closely to provide overall leadership for AFT’s programs and integration of AFT’s national and regional programming.

The Vice President for Programs (VPP) provides leadership and administrative support for AFT’s national
programming. The VPP reports to the President.

The VPP is part of AFT’s Executive Team. In addition, the VPP serves on the Program Strategy Team, which guides the overall direction of AFT’s programming.

The VPP actively collaborates and coordinates with the other VPP to help ensure that AFT’s
programming is strategic, synergistic, efficiently-delivered, well-received, and impactful.

The VPP works closely with the CFO/VP for Finance and Administration (CFO/VPFA) to help develop and track programmatic metrics, ensure that all directors of national programs are preparing solid workplans and budgets and are then managing effectively to budget.

The VPP works most closely with the directors of national programs, but also works with other staff to foster staff collaboration and integration of national and regional programming.

The VPP is ideally based at AFT’s National Office in Washington, DC; but could be located elsewhere if willing to maintain a frequent presence at the National Office.
