Apr 15 Conference Call Summary

The first Eco-Apple IPM conference call of the season was held today, Tuesday, April 15 at 8am. See the Apple Talk announcement on March 28 for more details on the calls.
John’s Updates
1. Some orchards are at silvertip in Northern Illinois.
2. In general, John has noticed that some insects are starting to move.
Conversation Topics
1. Copper: drying conditions; lower application rate this spring due to weather; oil as a spreader, not a sticker; potential for repeated applications to cause soil toxicity.
2. The importance of temperature before and after a delayed dormant oil application.
3. Mating disruption: the current expert opinion on its effectiveness; best lures; when to use.
4. How to make the Pest Survey Bulletin more useful.
5. Treating black rot cankers on stub cuts in a block of mature high density honeycrisps.
6. Managing ground suckers

The next call will be held on Tuesday, April 22. Barring a scheduling or weather conflict, conference calls will be held every Tuesday at 8 am through the season.
