Building your management capacity for fruit production

Growing fruit is risky business, and developing your management skills may help you navigate those risks.

UWEX is offering a two-day workshop to provide fruit growers with individualized, in-depth coaching on management skills.

The Assessment Center features individual and group simulations and activities involving
challenges that an owner/manager of a farm may encounter. The assessment center will:

  • Assess individual behaviors in the nine critical farm business management skills
  • Offer the opportunity to interact with and learn from other farmers
  • Provide personalized feedback designed to improve your management abilities
  • Initiate the development of personal action strategies focused on management

This professional development experience

Day 1 ~ Assessment Center Activities

  • Begins promptly at 9:00 a.m.
  • Group Discussion
  • In-Basket Activity
  • Performance Discussion
  • Background Interview

Day 2 ~ Assessment Center Activities

  • Group Discussion
  • Case Study
  • In-Basket Interview
  • Wrap-up group session
  • Adjourns at 3:00 p.m.

Follow-up–Each participant will receive a written report and personal presentation summarizing the findings of the assessment center.

An Assessment Center identifies and evaluates managerial and leadership capabilities using individual and group farm simulations and exercises. Its strength lies in multiple observations by trained assessors. Because of the individualized focus of this experience, enrollment is limited.

This program has been valued at $500.00. Funding made available through a USDA grant allows us to offer this program at a reduced cost to you.

The $100.00 registration includes: Two days of management capacity building experiences, lodging, several meals and breaks; individual oral and written feedback/coaching to assist in action strategies.
