The University of Texas – Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Biology seeks to fill a tenure track position, Assistant Professor in Entomology with preferred emphasis on integrated pest management, insect agroecology, and/or biological control. The successful candidate is expected to complement the strengths of current departmental faculty in the Biology Department and in the School for Earth, Environmental, and Marine Sciences working on food and agriculturally important problems in the region. Several faculty are also involved in collaborative research with local USDA agencies, as well as with local area farmers, providing numerous opportunities for collaborative mission-oriented research. Applicants with evidence of effective interdisciplinary collaboration and applied entomology research experience will be strongly considered.

The position provides opportunities for the successful candidate to develop their own externally-funded research program, teach advanced courses, and participate in the mentoring of graduate students. The successful candidate will be expected to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses, including Entomology, Biological Control, Integrated Pest Management, and other courses in their area of interest/expertise; conduct externally-funded research; and participate in departmental service activities.

UTRGV is located in a region of unusual biological diversity and interest, the subtropical Rio Grande Valley, near the Gulf of Mexico. UTRGV is a new university composed of members and assets of the former University of Texas – Pan American and University of Texas at Brownsville. UTRGV is one of the largest public universities in Texas, with undergraduate enrollment over 27,000 students.  Already considered one of the premier Hispanic Serving Institutions in the US, UTRGV is developing initiatives to become the premier research institution in South Texas.

Minimum Qualifications

Ph.D. in Biology, Entomology, or closely related area from an accredited university. Postdoctoral research experience is preferred.

The primary appointment for this position will be at the Edinburg Campus, although travel to other campuses may be expected.  Salary is Commensurate with qualifications and experience. More information about UTRGV and the Department can be found at and
