Malus species are native to North America, but the culinary apples that we use today are largely from imported sources. Early settlers brought apple seeds and later settlers brought potted trees with them. So while apples are native to North America, most common apples that we eat originated in Asia, traveled through Europe, and were brought to North America by immigrants.
