Leafminer emergence

Usually Spotted Tentiform Leafminer (STLM) emergence coincides with tight cluster stage of apple. The above photograph was taken on April 29, 2006 in one of the Bayfield orchards during tight cluster stage of apple. STLM larvae mines the leaves and reduce leaf photosynthesis which inturn affect the fruit quality. Excessive infesation can lead to leaf drop and premature fruit drop.
