Why Coconut Water Brand Harmless Harvest Is Betting On Regenerative Agriculture

Harmless Harvest, an ethical coconut water brand aiming to combat the environmental and human rights issues in the coconut supply chain, found that their coconuts in 2020 were 12% smaller and yielded 30% less water. Harmless Harvest sources from Thailand, which was hit with a drought costing the country up to $840 million in losses. Perhaps more concerning than the drought is that up to 90% of the coconut trees in Asia are at the end of their productive cycle. To combat these environmental issues, Harmless Harvest has publicly committed to sourcing 50% of their coconuts from certified Regenerative Organic farmers by 2023. Their progress will be published in an annual impact accountability report and all training material for their program will be open source. Read more here.
